Christian Bueger

Christian Bueger is Professor of International Relations at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark.

He is also honorary professor at the University of Seychelles, a research fellow at the University of Stellenbosch and one of the Directors of the SafeSeas network of academic institutions working on maritime security.

He has published over 100 articles and chapters on questions of maritime security, maritime security strategies, ocean governance, capacity building and counter-piracy operations. His current research studies different national and regional approaches to maritime domain awareness, information sharing and the coordination of operations at sea.

Professor Bueger holds a PhD from the European University Institute. Before joining the University of Copenhagen, he was a Professor at Cardiff University, Wales, UK as well as a visiting fellow at the National University of Singapore and University College London.

He is a regular speaker at international maritime security conferences, and has worked in different capacities for the Contact Group on Piracy off the Coast of Somalia, the Indian Ocean Commission, Republic of Seychelles, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime as well as the International Maritime Organization.
